Since I've been laid-off, I've been hearing that networking is the number 1 way to get a job. I've even heard a professional say spend more time networking and less time responding to job post.

But to be honest, out of all the jobs I've had in my life, I got them either through replying to a job post or attending a job fair. I'll admit I may have found out about postings or job fairs from someone I know, but I've never gotten hired into a company because of someone I knew at the company.

I think networking by sharing information is beneficial.

Comment on Honoring My Influences.

Thanks for posting. I'm a laid off copywriter of only 8 years in the biz - now aged 51. I interviewed for a digital junior writer job the other day, went very well, waiting to hear. Also am finalist in 2 web re-writes, one $25 / hr, one $65 hr. It does feel weird and a little humiliating, but u gotta do what u gotta do. So article makes me feel great.

Comment on Don't Make People Give Up On You

Couldn't agree more. 1-strike for those not a friend or family member.

You did the right thing.
