Hitting the 500 Milestone.

I'm pretty sure I joined Linkedin around 2004. This week, I just reached the Linkedin 500 mark. So it took me roughly seven years to reach "major contact" status. I know some of you are thinking, "So what? I got 500+ in a few days."

I've said it many times, but deserves repeating – Linkedin is not  a popularity contest. Your 500+ means nothing if you can't reach out to each other and well, actually work together. Would they recognize your name in an email? Would they respond? If you answered "no" to either question, why keep them on your list? If they contacted you, how would you respond?

Over the weekend, three recruiters contacted me (via Linkedin) for recommendations. Some names immediately came to mind (from my list of 500). I wish those individuals well. Hopefully something will happen.

That's one way to social network your way into a job.

It helps to actually know the people in your network.
