Educate Your Audience About Your Apps.

I didn't get a chance to post on Friday(9/9), because my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary (5yrs and counting). During that time, we went out for brunch, checking out a new joint in the Chicago South Loop area called Waffles.

I immediately spied this on our table:

My wife knows me well and knew I could not resist whipping out my phone to see what this QR code was going to reveal. It's actually a check-in app called SilvrSpoon that also allows you to place your order on your phone to earn rewards. I already checked into the restaurant via the usual apps –Yelp and Foursquare. SilvrSpoon was new to me. Chances are, it may have been new to others. So it's a good thing that Waffles had this helpful tutorial:

During the meal, my wife later became intrigued by the signage and decided to download the app too. Normally, she's not an "app-downloader."

If you're creating a social networking (mobile or digital) experience for your audience, you're going to have to educate them every time. It doesn't matter if they are carrying the latest iPhone or Android phone. They may not be experts at using all the bells and whistles. Assume everyone is a newbie and make the education process an enjoyable one.

In this case, the desire to download the app was driven by an enjoyable meal and wanting to support a new restaurant.

In case you missed our praise on Yelp, Foursquare or SilvrSpoon, we shared the Red Velvet Waffles and the Cheddar Waffles and Short Ribs - both amazing. We may have to spend extra time in the gym now, but we are now happily working our way toward our Waffles rewards via SilvrSpoon.
