If you haven't guessed by now, advertising can be a thankless job sometimes. You can pour your heart out on a job and get nothing but criticism in return.

I'm sure no one told you it would always be nice.

Late nights.

Insane deadlines.

Difficult people.

Here's a comic I found hanging on the employee fridge at one of my old agencies. I made a copy and I've kept it for years by my desk(s) and it's always makes me smile.


When the days aren't so nice, that's when you have to be your own cheering section and find strength in your past achievements:

The time you sold an idea to the "unsellable" client...

The moment when a difficult professor actually liked your ad project...

When your internship turned into a job offer...

The day the chief creative officer, whom you thought never knew your name, singles you out for your contribution...

Like the comic says, sometimes people think you're only as good as your last idea. If it was great and no one seemed to notice, trust me, someone did.

You may not be rewarded for it now. You just have to be patient and pat yourself on the back for now.
