I'm In Advertising. Hate Me.

"All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies."
– Richard Adams (Watership Down)

People hate advertising.

It interrupts TV shows.

It disrupts our lives.

There's no truth in advertising.

Community groups condemn us.

Everyone is a cynic and says advertising has no effect on them.

We're people who sold our creative souls to the corporate devils.

It's funny how you can look at the most successful campaigns campaigns of 2010 and I bet you will find more negative responses about the work than positive. Face it, advertising is the kind of work people will not admit to liking publicly.

On the consumer side, we are warping people's minds, but if you look in their homes, you'll find things they've purchased because of the information available (including ads).

On the corporate side, I see criticism of successful work and I can't help but wonder if it's just jealousy. I'm not afraid to say, "I wish I did that," instead of tearing the work down.

So when you look at the "best of 2010" lists out there. I challenge you to pick them apart to see why they work, instead of just picking them apart.
