Modular. A Look You Can Wear After Labor Day

It Labor Day. If you're concerned about how you look in the job market, wearing white is the least of your problems. Here are some basics to changing your look:

Modularize your resume.
You hear it often: tailor your resume to every job application. So make it easier on yourself and create a modular resume. Create multiple descriptions of each position you've held and put them in separate files or off the page. Each module should emphasize different strengths (traditional, digital, social media, etc). After the modules are created, all you have to do is piece sections together to create a more targeted resume.

Create a separate portfolio
. If multiple resumes are necessary, then so are multiple portfolios to reflect your work. It's a bit more difficult to modularize an online portfolio. You never know who or when someone is checking out your book, so you can't just swap out pages every minute. You can modularize your pages, but don't make them so numerous it will be hard to search through. It's a bit more time and budget consuming, but separate and more specialized portfolios may make it easier for agencies to see you are the best creative for the job.
