The Ad Grad Project: Virtual Is Becoming A Career Reality.

This is it — week five – the finale. I'm tired.

The Ad Grad Project was a big undertaking – bigger than I expected.

Last Ad Grad post, I complained about wearing a tie. Now I've found ad jobs you may be able to do in the comfort of your underwear. Imagine getting out of bed (or staying in bed) then grabbing your laptop to start work. You're probably saying, "I do that now. It's called freelancing."

I'm not talking about freelancing. As the digital age constantly upgrades the way we work with each other, some companies are looking more into hiring employees – virtually. Media Job Market recently featured an article, "Find Online Jobs That Pay." Here Melissa Attree's company GetOn eMarketing operates as a social media strategist, blogger, and WebPR professional for her clients from South Africa. Turns out, there are more than blogging and social media opportunities out there.

Sites like ODesk and elance are brokering virtual jobs between employers and potential employees. You post your credentials on these sites and bid for the opportunity to work on jobs as a vendor/freelancer or permanent employee. The employer then pays a fee to hire you. Then the brokers cut you a check, based on the sum agreed upon by you and your client/employer. That's the big differentiator from these "work at home" jobs/scams. Never pay to work for someone.

As for the Ad Grad Project, I owe you for six states: Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire. Since these are virtual jobs, you can sit right where you are to work for these companies:

Freelance Photographers for VFM Leonardo
Virtual Design Intern for SAIC
Virtual Events Associate for Corporate Executive Board
Virtual Copywriting Intern for Savor the Journey
Flash Designer  for Pacific NetSoft (The job is virtual, but they prefer west coast candidates)
Virtual Personal Assistant for an online marketer
Bloggers for ProBlogger

So that's it – 51 opportunities in five weeks. I gave you five ways to hopefully broaden your job search. Would you like the Ad Grad Project to return for our crop of June graduates? Let me know. For now, I'm taking a break for the rest of the week. Happy Holidays and good luck.
