Book Learnin' Fridays Begin ...Sort Of.

I figure today is as good as any to start my New Year's resolution. Not for 2010, but 2009 (I've got three weeks left to this year. It still counts.)

I have a problem with bookstores - I can't walk into one without purchasing a book. I buy them faster than I can read them. Even now, I'm saving my pennies for an Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader, because I can't squeeze another hardcover into my shelves at home.

Last January, I swore to start reading what I have, before I buy another book. Any book I don't keep is going to be donated to the local library or a literacy group. I think I've accumulated another 30-40 books and graphic novels since then. Damn those mobile coupons Borders keeps sending to my phone.

Anyway, among the stacks of fiction, I have a few books on marketing and I will review them for you.

The good.

The bad.

And the resource worthy.

The variety of subject matter looks very impressive on my shelves. It's about time I learn what's in them. We'll call these posts "Book Learnin' Fridays." I like a good read to carry me through a cold winter weekend if I'm snowed in.

Reviews will include fiction too, but the setting, characters or authors must have a tie to advertising and marketing. That brings me to this point: Authors, if you'd like me to review your book, email me. I'd prefer it if you'd send two copies. We'll come up with some contest to give a signed copy to a reader.

I'm in the middle of a book now, so I'll have my first review ...next Friday. Then we'll continue every other Friday. Say what you want. If it's not January 1, it still counts as keeping my 2009 resolution.
