The Lemonade is almost ready.

I enjoy my job. I love the challenges of the business and often it doesn't feel like work. When it's suddenly taken from you, it's difficult envisioning doing anything else (it was for me), but if you really want to pursue an advertising career, accept cutbacks as the norm.

In "Most advertising jobs aren't advertised," I told you I'm a three-time loser when it comes to lay offs. Ad staff are among the early casualties when client budgets are slashed. Sometimes clients move to other agencies for various reasons. It always results in talented ad people out a job, looking for a "Plan B."

Stories of "Plan B" have been made into an upcoming documentary called Lemonade. Written by Erik Proulx and directed by Marc Colucci, "Lemonade is about what happens when people who were once paid to be creative in advertising and are forced to be creative with their own lives."

Since I caught the trailer above, I've subscribed to updates and I look forward to seeing this film. (They are currently looking for distribution.) Many clips are also posted on YouTube. On Monday, November 30 at 7:00 PM, they will be holding the premiere for Lemonade at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, MA. I'm not sure if it's invitation only, but if you're in the area, check it out if you can. Let me know how it turns out.

I've dedicated this blog to assist people with a desire to pursue careers in advertising, so I won't be covering Plan B topics in too much depth. I approach this business much like acting. It's important to have a Plan B in place, until you get that big break. Like actors, your gig may not last and it's important to have a fall back plan always. Plan B is also personal and it will be different for everyone. All I can stress is to have one. This is the time of redefining yourself and it won't always be your choice.
